Small, Mighty VFX for Small, Mighty Filmmakers.

If you’ve ever sat through the credits after a Big Superhero Movie for that post-credit scene, you’ve probably noticed the obscene number of VFX artists and studios credited in those films. When it comes to visual effects for big action or sci fi blockbusters, it doesn’t take a village, it takes a small nation. But what about that indie drama or quirky comedy? If you sat through those credits, you might be surprised to see a visual effects studio or two listed there as well.

These days, every film or TV project could use a VFX partner. It’s just a matter of scale.

Fewer shots? Smaller asks? Tighter budget? You probably aren’t going to want to call in the big guns, even if you could afford them.

As a boutique VFX studio, we get to work more directly with the indie filmmakers and editing teams who call on us for help. It’s artists working with artists. It’s collaborative and creative and, more often than not, a little crafty—working as a team to find solutions for things that couldn’t be captured practically or goofs that weren’t noticed until the edit.

Sometimes we’re part of the plan and the conversation from the beginning, tasked with making an internal part of the story external, like our work on the short film Ships in the Night. Other times, the only plan was to eventually “fix it in post,” and we’re brought in to make that magic happen - like our puppetry clean-up for A Mind of It’s Own or some pre-festival-circuit polishes for Bride of the Killer Pinata.

And, because we’re also a full-service animation studio, sometimes we also help set the stage with a kick-ass opening sequence.

We’ve had the pleasure of working on larger, VFX-forward projects like Netflix’s Sweet Tooth and Amazon’s Peripheral, usually plugging in alongside bigger-name studios to tackle a more specialized shot or to help stretch the budget further. But the smaller or more subtle is where we really vibe. TV shows you wouldn’t immediately think of needing visual effects like Shrill (Hulu) or Corporate (Comedy Central) and indie films that aren’t going to bother with VFX mammoths like Weta or Zoic, etc.

In any case, we love being a small and mighty VFX solution.
